NORBI: I CAN DO BETTER
RECENT signing Norbert Kosciuch has promised Peterborough fans: You ain’t seen nothing yet!

The Polish newcomer had his best ever Elite League meeting against top-of-the-table Poole on Monday.

But he’s determined to up his points scoring as the Readypower Panthers take on defending champions and second in the table Wolverhampton at the East of England Showground on Thursday (July 22).

And he believes spending the last few days in the city – rather than having to fly in on the day of the meeting – can only help him.

He explained: “Normally I’m up about five in the morning to catch a plane. I try to have a sleep when I get here but it’s not the same.

“I won’t have to worry about that because I’ve been here since Monday.”

It has taken Kosciuch, 26, several meetings to find his feet at his new home track.

But he won the hearts of the Peterborough fans with his gutsy display against the Pirates in a sensation meeting that had Sky TV pundits gushing with praise for the action, claiming it was the most exciting and entertaining televised match of the season.

Even though he scored only five points, he followed his partner over the line in four of his five races to finish with a paid nine tally that ensured the Panthers preserved their unbeaten home record.

But it was the way he got the points, battling every inch of the way, that really endeared him to the home fans.

He said: “I can still do much better. I am now getting used to the track and also with the set-ups I need at the Showground.

“I’m happy with everything except I want to score more points for the team.

“I know I can do it. Everything has been new to me – I’d never even been to England before my first meeting at the end of last month.”

Kosciuch has grabbed 11, paid 16 points, in the last two home matches against title rivals Swindon and Poole.

And he’s beginning to claim some big name scalps on the way, beating British Grand Prix star Davey Watt and World Under 21 Champion Darcy Ward on Monday.

The Panthers round off a hectic spell of three meetings in seven days on their own track against the defending league champions and will be looking for three more points to cement their place in the top four.

The chase for a play-off spot seems certain to go down to the wire and Wolves will be another major threat to Peterborough’s unbeaten home record.

Fredrik Lindgren is the only rider ahead of Panthers’ superstar Kenneth Bjerre in the national Elite League averages and they also include fellow Grand Prix regular Tai Woffinden in their squad.

In their last visit to the Showground Wolves were brushed aside, losing 36-57.

But Panthers’ team manager Trevor Swales warned: “They will be out to gain revenge for that and know that a win would probably make their play-off spot completely safe.
